Mayor's Monthly Message - July 2022
It’s the start of summer and we are well prepared for a fun filled season. Deptford Council sponsors the best in events, with fun for all ages. Also check out the Deptford Public Library website for events held at the Library, along with discount tickets and free passes through the Library Discovery Program.
We will be celebrating the 4th of July, the birthday of our great nation. As we all enjoy the long weekend, we should remember and honor the sacrifices of the Patriots who fought for our freedom. From the Revolutionary War to the present day, our Armed Forces have fought and sacrificed to defend our nation. Fly your American flags this weekend and all year long to display your patriotism. Our municipal flag on Clements Bridge Road in front of the Mall is back up and flying proudly on a brand new beautiful flag pole. This road is actually an important part of our Countries history during the Revolution. The Hessian soldiers who attacked Fort Mercer in 1777 retreated down this road back to Haddonfield after their defeat. Jonas Cattell, the hero of this battle is buried here in Deptford Township. Deptford Council has embarked on a mission to install flag poles at all of our municipal properties. We just finished at the Community Center and the Public Works yard.
BUSINESS NEWS ~ Deptford Council and our Economic Development team are busy planning for our future. Inspira is renovating the old Dick’s Sporting Goods store into a brand new state of the art medical center with up to nine different practices, including orthopedics, cardiology and primary care. AFC a new urgent care facility just opened in the old Grove Hardware location at 1410 Delsea Drive. Jo-Ann fabrics is moving into the old Babies “R” Us store on Clements Bridge Road. Look for these and many more exciting new businesses moving into Deptford ~ from small “mom and pop” stores to national business chains and great jobs opportunities.
We will see you soon at one of our great events. Be safe and be well.
