The GCIA Office of Recycling, in cooperation with the Board of Chosen Freeholders, is pleased to announce that we will conduct another Tire Amnesty Program for the year 2008. The GCIA/Office of Recycling has designated the entire month of March 2008 as "Tire Amnesty Month" for the acceptance of used tires from County residents, farmers, and municipalities. We will also conduct a special event on Saturday, March 15th.
The protocols for the 2008 Tire Amnesty Program will be similar to last year. County residents can dispose of up to 25-passenger car and pick-up tires at no cost at the Gloucester County Solid Waste complex at 493 Monroeville Rd. (Route 694) in South Harrison Township, Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 3:00 pm. The Saturday event will be held rain-or-shine and will run from 8:00 am until 12:00 noon. This program is for Gloucester County residents ONLY and no commercial businesses will be accepted! In addition, County residents with more than 25 tires must contact the GCIA/Office or Recycling at 856-478-6045 (ext.14) to schedule a specific appointment in order to participate in the program. No more than 50 tires will be accepted per appointment. Although tires may be on or off their rims, THEY MUST BE SEPARATED BY TYPE. MIXED LOADS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. They will be going into different piles. In addition, NO OVERSIZED/HEAVY EQUIPMENT TIRES WILL BE ACCEPTED THIS YEAR.
We are also going to try to accommodate as many municipalities as we can through the program. Obviously we can’t accept thousands of tires from any one town, but we will do all we can to help eliminate municipal tire stockpiles. All protocols listed for the residential sector are also the same for municipalities. We will also again work closely with County farmers on a case-by-case basis to assist them with the disposal of stockpiled tires.
